The World We Live In

Sometimes I wonder how we, as human beings, can be so fucking disgusting.

There are so many good people in the world, and every day they make a difference and impact people with their personalities and successes. Without good people, the world wouldn't be nearly as beautiful as it is today. I really wish there were more people like that around.

Today I was browsing my Tumblr dash when a particular post came up. It was a post about a blog called "There Will Be Bones", or more popularly known as "Pro-a-n-a". The blog is run by a girl who promotes anorexia and eating disorders because she thinks they're good and that full grown women should be around 90 pounds or less. 90 being a tad chubby.

She posts pictures of girls and women, who look beautiful and healthy, and called them obsese, fat, lard-asses, and all sorts of things. She posts "tips" on how to easily throw up food when you're done eating and all kinds of different methods to lose weight. And people read and use those tips. There was one post from one of her followers saying how she had gone from 250 to 90 in one week, and she was thanking this pro-a-n-a for it.

Losing weight that fast is dangerous. She could die from that.

I read through some of her posts and went through at least two pages before leaving the computer and going straight to the bathroom because I felt sick. I sat in the shower and cried like a frickin' baby because I couldn't handle it. I couldn't handle how hateful this girl was. I can't handle how hateful she is.

This wasn't the first time I've ever found something disturbing on Tumblr. Last month I was doing what I was doing today, going through my daily messages and e.c.t when a video popped up. I didn't read the comments below and clicked on the video to see what it was.

The video showed a man rolling around on some asphalt, a few seconds later a few guys came in and starting kicking him. They kicked him over and over and over, and when he tried running away one of the guys got a wooden chair and started beating him with it. He fell down and they kept going. It went on for a few minutes and the longer the video went the more people you could see standing by, watching.

After another few minutes one of the guys grabbed some fuel and set him on fire. So the man stood up and started running away. He tripped and started rolling around again so the fire would go out. It did. Then the other guys caught up with him and set him on fire again, but not before kicking him a few times. Once he was on fire again one of the guys grabbed a desk and threw it at him, breaking the desk and crushing him in place. They walked away while the camera-man stayed and listened to him scream.

During this whole thing there must've been at least 100 people in the immediate area. Cars drove by, things went on as normal as any other day. Noone even stopped to help.

That man was tortured, kicked, burned, almost run over, hit over the heat with chairs and a desk, and eventually left to die in the middle of the road. Because he was gay.

I didn't know what to do after that, and for the first time in months I just burst out crying. And I did again today when I thought about that video and that Tumblr blog.

Earlier this month I found another thing.

It was a news artical about a 11 year old boy who'd commited suicide by shooting himself in the head. He did it because he was intensely bullied about his limp caused by a medical condition. The artical had pictures of him, smiling, hugging his dad, riding his bike. He was eleven.

I've never had much hope for human beings. Only recently have I started to find the good people. But at times like this, when I find these things, things that parents would never want their kids to see or be exposed too, I can't stand it. I can't stand it because I know there are much worse things that have happened. Internets sites and blogs like Pro-a-n-a and Encyclopedia Dramatica have been a slap in the face because I know that there's worse. And excluding internet hate and malice, there IRL things going on too. Things like the 1%, the Tea Party, homophobia, colleges getting more and more expensive by the year, no jobs, men and women getting raped or raping, pedophiles, death, famine..

I don't want to live in a world like this, but hell if I'll kill myself over a few assholes. I'm gonna help fix this place, because you know what? There are too many good people that suffer. I can't do much now, but I swear to God, as soon as I can, I will.

Procrastination and 3rd-Person are My Best Friends

--A WEEK OR SO LATER!

-Skip to the bottom for 3rd-person writing-

Well, during my one week break I did absolutely nothing. It was so relaxing. Seriously though, I didn't get one piece of writing done. Haha, but I think it was worth it. I basically spent the entire week lounging around reading Homestuck fan fictions and watching Sgt. Frog.  Like I said before, it was extremely relaxing so I'm glad I did it.

I did finish my costume though! On Sunday I went to a Halloween costume/decoration sale and bought the main piece of my outfit; a white cloak with a hood. It's too big for me but I can always cut it! Because the cloak is semi transparent I have to wear white clothes under it too, which wasn't a problem until today. When I was trying my pair of white shorts on (I didn't try them on then I bought them) I found out they're semi-transparent too. Tomorrow I'm going to have to see if wearing all white clothes helps, and if the cloak conceals everything enough. Luckily my shirt is thick enough that I don't have to worry about it too. As far as shoes go I'll probably just wear some flip-flops.

For my make-up I'm going to use some ultra-white concealer on my face and use dark purple eye-shadow to make my eyes look sunken in (or maybe just look like I only have sockets?). It should be fun!

Even thought I have a costume and everything, there's still one tini little problem. I have two choices this year:

1. Go trick-or-treating with my cousin who may not come (if she doesn't I'll have to go with my little sister)

2. Go to my friend's house and chill/probably not trick-or-treat.

I have no idea what to do! I'd love to trick-or-treat with my cousin, but if she doesn't show up... Well, it just wouldn't be as fun. And I'd love to see my friend because I haven't seen him in ages, but I still want to go trick-or-treating and I'm afraid I'll be boring if I go to his house. I really don't know what to do. If I don't end up trick-or-treating I'll still dress up and post a picture of my costume later, y'know, for the lulz. Sorry this post is a little bit blue, but I'm feeling that way.

Ironically, there's one person that'd make my freakin' day if they could trick-or-treat with me. Sadly, we don't talk anymore. Even though we're not on friendly terms I'd still be tickled silly because I know she'd make my Halloween better.

Anyway. I just remembered something! I do have some writing to post! It's some third-person I wrote awhile ago. So, if you feel like reading more, here's something! It's about two of my OC, Bruciare and Emily and how they basically interact (Side note: Emily was the girl in the other 3rd-person story I posted!). Sorry for any grammar mistakes.

"A quiet tapping echoed through the massive room, almost drowned out by the crackling fire a few feet away. The room had dark red walls accompanied by redwood floors, giving the massive space many shadows. Across the room there was a fireplace that lit the room in a dim glow. A few feet away from it was a desk. It was old but still gleaming with expensive taste and fashion. Seated at it was a man, rhythmically tapping his fingers against the wood in annoyance.

A malicious scowl seemed etched onto Bruciare's face, never flickering. He had been thinking for hours but still hadn't quite figured out what to do. Frustration and annoyance had made themselves known hours before and had overstayed their welcome far too long.

The tapping stopped and left the room in silence once more. Without warning the fire lurched out of the fireplace and expanded through the room, quickly gathering at the his feet. He waved the flames off without care and continued to ignore them. Like a child being ignored, the flames hissed and whistled while changing through forms, eventually deciding on a bird.

It perched on the desk and pecked his hand in concern, quietly wondering why he had stopped tapping.

The malicious look was still present when he gracefully stood up and walked away from the desk. Without caring to address the bird, he slithered through a nearby wall and entered a hall. Like the previous room, the halls were themed red and carried a elegant but medieval feel. Every once and awhile he'd see a servant or two skittering towards their destinations, but other then that, he was alone.

Feeling that walking would take too long, he Splintered and rapidly moved through his private residence and towards the sealed off area of his fortress. In seconds he re-formed inside the building and at the top of it's staircase. In front of him there was a wall that seemed as simple as the others. Just as before, he slipped through the barrier and stepped into a room.

The room had a fair sized bed, a wardrobe, several book shelves and one large window. Across the room there was another doorway that led into another room. He quietly made his way towards the door frame and slid into the room, noting the faint smell of smoke. The doorway led into a luxurious bathroom filled with assorted items along with a large bathtub. In it was a young woman, her hair tied up into a bun and most of her body covered in soapy bubbles.

Annoyance sparked but he easily hid it. Concluding that she wouldn't break her silence he contracted his hand and left the room. Once out of sight he Splintered and returned to his private residence. Immediately, the malicious scowl returned. Across the room the fire-bird eagerly flew towards him and circled while he sat back down at his desk. Returning to his pattern, the consistent tapping began again.

Appeased, the bird flew into the fireplace and spread back into it's original form, adding it's crackling to the noise. For a instant Bruciare wondered if the fire could feel pain and contemplated killing it. Just as he was about to try, there was a new sound. He calmly glanced towards his window and noticed something flickering.

Curious, he stood from his desk and slid his hand through the glass. He grabbed onto the flickering object and withdrew his hand, the glass immediately fusing together again. Opening his hand, a glowing red butterfly moved around his hand. He squinted slightly and wondered if he had created the creature while napping. He then remembered that if he had, it would probably be lethal. It reminded him of a firefly because of the glow it gave off, but it was obviously a butterfly.

The tiny bug flickered before flying off, landing on his face instead. Just as he was about to kill it, the tiny creature took off and landed on his desk, specifically on a piece of paper. A small message began to sprawl out against the parchment and as soon as it finished the butterfly dissolved into ash. Getting even more annoyed, Bruciare grabbed the paper and read the message quickly.

Goodnight.
Instantly he knew who it had come from and a small smirk of satisfaction spread across his face. She had sent it. With his brooding attitude gone, he returned to his desk and began working in silence."

So there you go! If you liked it I'd be uber happy if you said so in a comment below! Or if you didn't like it and had critiques! Anyway, I think I'll stop this here. Thanks for reading,

Trying New Things

Writing/reading has always been something I like to do and the more I see all the different styles the more interesting it becomes for me. I've always liked past-tense style stories and third person and recently I've found out how much I dislike present-first-person (it's just a little strange, you know?). As far as writing goes I've always done past tense-first person (the usual style) and only in mid-August did I start trying third person.

Trying a different style was a real eye-opener because I saw how much fun third-person was to write! You can get a lot more descriptive and word things differently then you could sticking with one person. I'm planning on messing around with it more and seeing if I can write some complete stories in that fashion, which would be awesome! I think trying a new style really refreshed my creativity and inspiration! --But at the same time it made me really insecure about all the other stuff I'd written because they all seemed badly done. I'm still kinda feeling like that but maybe writing something new would rub some good vibes on me!

Really though, I highly doubt I'll get any of my ideas out without flipping a few tables. I guess that's just the process sometimes! Plus, I have a feeling I'll get side-tracked and write some sort of comedy/fluff with my different characters in-between for fun. Writing apocalyptic adventure/horror can really bring down your mood.

Maybe in the future I'll include some snippets and bits of writing in these blog posts, who knows! It all depends on what happens. Since Fall Break is next week maybe I'll sit down and do some stuff! That way I'd be doing it for fun and not to procrastinate homework (lol). Oh! Maybe horror? That would work with Halloween!

On another note-- I just check my view counter and apparently this blog has 2,000+ views! That's amazing! Thanks to everyone who's visited!  but seriously, it's probably because of the anime pictures.

Well, I think that's all I had to say! Sorry for another short post but my brain is going derp at the moment and the topic is over. I don't know why, but I have a feeling I'll either delete this later or redo it. Oh well! Thanks for reading,

Laura.

Halloween: My Guilty Pleasure

Ah, Halloween, my favorite holiday besides Christmas. I love it when people dress up and decorate their houses for the trick-or-treaters and get really creative with it. Even though there's still the entire month of October left I'm still super excited! There's just something about Halloween that's mysterious, like something "unnatural" could happen at any moment and in the back of your mind there's a part of you that wants it to happen! Well, maybe that's just me, but whatever. I've always like creepy/eerie things (not to be confused with gore) and Halloween has the perfect way to stimulate that interest.

Dressing up is one of the best parts of Halloween now that I'm older (candy is awesome, but it isn't the world anymore). I've gone as a ghost, a zombie bride, a vampire/witch (more times when I'd like to say) and most recently a escaped convict. This year I'm going as a ghost because the last time I dressed as one it was awesome and really fun! I'm super excited about dressing up because I already have a good idea of how my costume will look and this time I can do my own make-up!

Decorating my house is also another great part of Halloween because me, my dad and my little sister go to the extremes when we start setting things up. We usually make 2+ 6ft tall monsters and set them up around our front yard, have spider webs all around in the trees and bushes, and have a stereo system set up with a "Halloween Sounds" CD playing. Last year we made a system where a plastic bat flies down a cord at people! Hopefully this year we'll make something new!

Anyway, I'm sorry for only posting one thing during the entire month of September, but I was a little busy with other things like school and reading all 6,000 pages of Homestuck. This month I'm planning to update much more with Halloween things like the progress of my costume! That, and of course anything else that comes to mind! I think in the next post I'll talk about what's going on with my writing because there are a few things I need to work on and blah blah blah. Ha ha.

 Thanks for reading,

Laura.

A New Set Up and a Few Good Things

Right now things are pretty awesome. A few days ago I got a bran-spanking-new desk and cleared out half my room. Everything is so clean and new-looking it just makes me happy to be here. Having a desk is so nice because before I did all my homework and writing while sitting on my bed, and if you've done that before you know how uncomfortable and annoying that can get. It's funny how much better I feel sitting at it and working, it's like a whole load of stress just got lifted off my shoulders.

(The lighting is really weird because it's night and if I didn't use flash on my camera you wouldn't see anything, so please excuse that)

Man, I'm just in a really good mood right now! Other then the desk I got a new book shelve which can actually hold most of my books! (my collection has grown a lot over the years...) Hmm, sorry this is so short but my carpal tunnel is acting up again. Anyway, that's all for now! I have a lot of things on my mind and if I keep going who knows what kind of shit I'll talk about.

Thanks for reading,

Laura.

The Compound

The Compound by S.A. Bodeen. There is so much to say about this book I can't even find proper words. I finished it in one sitting and bawled like a baby at the end, which is good. I love everything about this book from the characters to the way it's written. I'm so glad that I picked it up because honestly, it was a seriously good book.

While reading it all the emotions of the characters and the rising tension were almost overwhelmingly real. I strongly recommend the book to teens that like apocalyptic thrillers and mystery. But, is a part in the book that may not be for the faint-hearted, so if you're easily startled by things like that, it may not be for you. Nonetheless, it's a great book and I hope more people read it! I give the book 5/5 stars.

"Starred Review. Bodeen, acclaimed as the writer of such picture books as Elizabeti's Doll, turns out a high-wire act of a first novel, a thriller that exerts an ever-tighter grip on readers.

Eli, the 15-year-old son of a billionaire techno-preneur, has spent the last six years with his family in the massive underground shelter his father has built, knowing that nuclear war has destroyed the world he knows—and killed his grandmother and his twin brother, who couldn't reach the compound in time. With nine years to go before the air outside will be safe to breathe again, the food supply shows signs of running out, but Eli's father has a solution—provided they jettison all morals and ethics. Repulsed and already suspicious, Eli begins investigating his father's claims, and sets up a family death match against a man who grows increasingly irrational and sinister but no less powerful.

As far-fetched as the premise may be, Bodeen keeps Eli's actions true to life and uses clues planted fairly and in plain sight. The audience will feel the pressure closing in on them as they, like the characters, race through hairpin turns in the plot toward a breathless climax." - Publishers Weekly.

Any who, on another note, I won't be able to post anything for awhile for a few reasons. One of them being I have a mild case of carpal tunnel, and it really, really, doesn't feel good to be on the computer. Oh! I finally saw that my blog settings were made so only blog members(?) could comment, so if you've ever tried but couldn't, sorry! Thanks for reading,
