Internet Ages and Why I Hate Kids

One of my biggest pet peeves is kids who are like, 9 or 10 using the Internet.

No words can describe how much I hate seeing little kids online. Of course I have nothing against young kids using the Internet to go on Club Penguin or play Wizard's 101, but when they start going on sites like Livestream.com, Tumblr, Facebook, deviantART, and e.c.t, I can't stand it. Those are "teen sites", not kid sites. There are a lot of things kids shouldn't see on the Internet and personally, I really don't think kids under 13 should be using computers for anything other then games and school.

I know for a fact that kids will disagree with me. Why wouldn't they? It's the Internet, they want to be cool, be 'hip'. They're totally mature enough to go on teen and adult sites, no problem! All the time, they're online thinking they're the hottest shit, cursing and trying to act cool, and some of them really think they are, when really, everyone is just kind of rolling their eyes and walking away.

A lot of kids think they're mature enough to go on grown-up sites. My reaction? Really? You're what, 10? How in hell do you even begin to think that you're mature enough to be on here? Do you even understand how this place works? Sure, the Internet can be fun and cool, but it can be a really bad place too. One of the big thing the Internet offers is anonymity, which means 1) People can have conversations and not worry about being publicly judged, and 2) People will sure as hell call you out on your bullshit.

AND THE SWEARING. OH MY SWEET MOTHER OF GOD WHEN THEY SWEAR LIKE LITTLE ANGRY PIRATES.

Should I stop here? Yes. Because if I don't stop now I'll go on forever with how angry kids make me.

First Impression: Skyrim: Elder Scrolls and Deus Ex: Human Revolution

So for Christmas I got Skyrim and Deus Ex! They're both good games and I'd thought I'd post my first impressions of the games!

Deus Ex: Right now I'm in the second city and so far, I'm loving this game! It's so fun to play and I can't wait to get back to it. I have no problems with it so far. I love the combat and locations, and I play on the medium difficulty which is difficult, but not annoyingly so! The story line is very interesting and appealing and I can't wait to find out more!

Skyrim: I have mixed issues with this game. I do really like it, the locations and scenery is nice. My main problem is how the game's plot is. Since it's an RPG there are other quests you can do and etc, but when it comes to the main story-line I'm just not feeling it. You're given a rough idea of what your supposed to do, and basically from there you're on your own. I'm sure that'll change, I'm only at the beginning of the game after all! Other then the plot, the combat is a tad hard, but that's okay. I think I'm just a bit caught up in Deus Ex to fully appreciate the game.

Well, that's it! Sorry for the short post, I'll make a follow-up later once I've finished the games. :)

EDIT (1/9/2012): HOLY MOTHER OF GOD SKYRIM IS UNNATURALLY ADDICTIVE,,,,

Update + Things that Happened This Year

Normally I'd apologize for not updating or posting anything lately, but really, I think it doesn't matter as long as I actually continue to post in general, right? Or maybe not, who knows. Anyway, I've had a lot of things on my mind but haven't really been up to writing them down. One thing in particular has been bubbling in my subconscious is how I view, and used to view, myself physically.

Back in the day I used to be perfectly fine with how I looked, then when I got older my natural female insecurities started to sink in, and soon enough I started getting pretty upset about it, especially considering I wanted to impress my crush.

So time went by like it usually does, and for ages I felt like the ugliest person in the world. Well, that changed this year, specifically over the summer and fall, and now in winter. One of the big changes I've noticed is that now when I look in the mirror I don't immediately think "UGLY" and instead something like "Hmm, looking nice today."

It's pretty cool, I think. Definitely a big improvement compared to my past-self-hating-self. :)

Anyway, moving on. So now that the year is coming to a close I've been thinking about a lot of things that have happened this year, and man, so much has happened. Good and bad.

I think one of the most major things is that this year I lost my oldest and best friends. It's one of the things I wish I could change most this year and honestly, losing her bothers me more then I'd like to admit. Especially since I was the one who pushed to end our friendship. She was my best friend since I was 6 or 7 years old, and for awhile we even "dated" (which ended up becoming one of the best times in my life, because she was just... wow.). Things ended really bad and I wish I could take back so many things, even now I wish I could apologize to her.

Another major thing that happened was losing my second-closest friend only a few months after loosing the first. We met through my best friend and became good friends pretty fast! We stayed friends even after I split from my old BFF and she became my new one. Honestly, sometimes it was hard because she was younger then me and I couldn't always talk to her, but it was still a good friendship and a considerable loss. This time however, I wasn't the one to end the friendship (if I had ruined it, holy crap that would've sent me over the edge). In the end she had misunderstood something I said and there was a fight. We haven't talked since.

I'll be perfectly honest here. I miss both of them and think of them often. Over the past few months I've had time to let go and let the reality (that we'll never talk again) sink in, and still, I wish both of them great lives. I'm actually kinda proud that I've let go of the malice and just let the good feelings come in when it comes to them.
Even though they'll never know, I'm so thankful for our friendships because even though we don't have them any more, they helped me become the person I am today.

One of the good things that happened this year was me taking my interest in school and writing seriously and getting busy with my education. It's really helped me start to think about what I want to do with my life and so many more options have surfaced! Now instead of only taking a interest in writing I've started working on my drawing skills and have even thought about a future film directing career! It's been a real eye-opener!

Another good thing that has happened is me discovering some of my new online interests such as Tumblr. Tumblr has given me new insight to the world and it's problems, specifically the kind of things kids are normally sheltered from. Again, it's been a real eye-opener and I'm started to feel less and less naive about the world every time something serious pops up on my dashboard. In my last post (I think) I mentioned a few of the things I'd seen on there, so if you'd like a better view on that, head on back a post or two!

One last thing, then I'm done! One of the more recently shocking things that happened was on my very own Facebook! After logging on today I received I friend request, and thinking nothing about it, accepted it. As it turns out, that friend request was from one of my old kung-fu friends! Way back in the day we went to the same kung-fu dojo and were good friends! And now, after 6 years of loosing contact, we've found each other again and as it turns out, she lives nearby! This is one of the only times I'm genuinely glad Facebook exists, because that's just awesome! I don't even know how she found me!

Ahh, well, I think this post is long enough so I'll end it here. But really quick, I saw that this blog has over 4,000 views!! That's amazing! but I think the views are for those anime pictures I posted ages ago. Thanks for reading,

Laura.

Halloween Fun

Halloween was awesome, well actually, it's still being awesome! My day started just like I wanted it to, waking up at 10:00am to start watching horror movies. Me, my mom and little sister watched some old horror's like Frankenstein and Hell House. It was all pretty cool! When the afternoon rolled by my dad got home and we finished decorating the front yard (everybody loved our decor, lol. I'll try getting a picture up sometime soon!).

Ah, so let me tell you about my costume. Basically, I ditched the ghost getup for a grim-reaper outfit. It fit me a lot better and I got to wear pajama's under the robe!

So when trick-or-treating came around I did my make-up, got in costume and went for Round One, Team One with my little sister and Mom. Even though it was still daytime kids were already coming out and trick-or-treating! So me and the rest of Team One looted our neighborhood for candy about an hour and thirty minutes (maybe more), and by then my mom was tired so we came home briefly.

At that time my older sister and her friend came home from their first round, and I left again with them for Round Two. We trick-or-treated for at least an hour and forty minutes, and we had basically covered all the houses, so we all came home.

Seriously, by the time we got back I was limping a little. After walking in a parade last Saturday, they did not like a trek around the neighborhood.

The rest of the night is still rolling by, me, my older sister, my mom, and my dad just finished watching The Wolf Man, and now every body's just kinda slinking off to their rooms. Right now I'm sitting here all zoned out of Twix and KitKats, and to say the least, I'm a bit tired, so I think I'll stop now.

Haha, welp, I hope everybody had a great Halloween! Good night!

The World We Live In

Sometimes I wonder how we, as human beings, can be so fucking disgusting.

There are so many good people in the world, and every day they make a difference and impact people with their personalities and successes. Without good people, the world wouldn't be nearly as beautiful as it is today. I really wish there were more people like that around.

Today I was browsing my Tumblr dash when a particular post came up. It was a post about a blog called "There Will Be Bones", or more popularly known as "Pro-a-n-a". The blog is run by a girl who promotes anorexia and eating disorders because she thinks they're good and that full grown women should be around 90 pounds or less. 90 being a tad chubby.

She posts pictures of girls and women, who look beautiful and healthy, and called them obsese, fat, lard-asses, and all sorts of things. She posts "tips" on how to easily throw up food when you're done eating and all kinds of different methods to lose weight. And people read and use those tips. There was one post from one of her followers saying how she had gone from 250 to 90 in one week, and she was thanking this pro-a-n-a for it.

Losing weight that fast is dangerous. She could die from that.

I read through some of her posts and went through at least two pages before leaving the computer and going straight to the bathroom because I felt sick. I sat in the shower and cried like a frickin' baby because I couldn't handle it. I couldn't handle how hateful this girl was. I can't handle how hateful she is.

This wasn't the first time I've ever found something disturbing on Tumblr. Last month I was doing what I was doing today, going through my daily messages and e.c.t when a video popped up. I didn't read the comments below and clicked on the video to see what it was.

The video showed a man rolling around on some asphalt, a few seconds later a few guys came in and starting kicking him. They kicked him over and over and over, and when he tried running away one of the guys got a wooden chair and started beating him with it. He fell down and they kept going. It went on for a few minutes and the longer the video went the more people you could see standing by, watching.

After another few minutes one of the guys grabbed some fuel and set him on fire. So the man stood up and started running away. He tripped and started rolling around again so the fire would go out. It did. Then the other guys caught up with him and set him on fire again, but not before kicking him a few times. Once he was on fire again one of the guys grabbed a desk and threw it at him, breaking the desk and crushing him in place. They walked away while the camera-man stayed and listened to him scream.

During this whole thing there must've been at least 100 people in the immediate area. Cars drove by, things went on as normal as any other day. Noone even stopped to help.

That man was tortured, kicked, burned, almost run over, hit over the heat with chairs and a desk, and eventually left to die in the middle of the road. Because he was gay.

I didn't know what to do after that, and for the first time in months I just burst out crying. And I did again today when I thought about that video and that Tumblr blog.

Earlier this month I found another thing.

It was a news artical about a 11 year old boy who'd commited suicide by shooting himself in the head. He did it because he was intensely bullied about his limp caused by a medical condition. The artical had pictures of him, smiling, hugging his dad, riding his bike. He was eleven.

I've never had much hope for human beings. Only recently have I started to find the good people. But at times like this, when I find these things, things that parents would never want their kids to see or be exposed too, I can't stand it. I can't stand it because I know there are much worse things that have happened. Internets sites and blogs like Pro-a-n-a and Encyclopedia Dramatica have been a slap in the face because I know that there's worse. And excluding internet hate and malice, there IRL things going on too. Things like the 1%, the Tea Party, homophobia, colleges getting more and more expensive by the year, no jobs, men and women getting raped or raping, pedophiles, death, famine..

I don't want to live in a world like this, but hell if I'll kill myself over a few assholes. I'm gonna help fix this place, because you know what? There are too many good people that suffer. I can't do much now, but I swear to God, as soon as I can, I will.
